Terms of Service

Plotroom is an independent personal project. It is developed and operated by Damian Manda as a personal tool for planning and sharing vessel voyage routes. Plotroom is not an official U.S. Government or NOAA system, and it is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) or any government agency. It is provided on an "as is" basis for evaluation.

Safety notice — planning aid only, not for navigation. All routes, passage plans, waypoints, and chart overlays produced, edited, or shared in Plotroom are planning aids only. They must be independently reviewed and verified by a qualified navigator and checked on a certified / type-approved ECDIS — against official, fully-corrected nautical charts and publications — before being used for any navigation. Plotroom is not a certified or type-approved navigation system, is not a substitute for official charts or an ECDIS, and must never be used as the sole means of navigation or for any safety-of-life decision. As stated on every Plotroom passage-plan sheet: "Planning aid only — not for navigation. Not a certified ECDIS." The user is solely responsible for the safe navigation of their vessel.

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your access to and use of the Plotroom web application and its associated services (collectively, "Plotroom"). Please read them carefully.

1. Acceptance of terms

By accessing or using Plotroom, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree to these Terms, do not access or use Plotroom.

2. What Plotroom is

Plotroom is a voyage-route planning and route-sharing aid. It provides:

in-tool planning and editing of routes and waypoints;
a route review-and-approval workflow, with email notifications;
chart overlays and NOAA ENC (Electronic Navigational Chart) display;
vessel positions and tracks sourced from public AIS feeds;
printable passage-plan sheets;
RTZ and GPX import, and RTZ, GPX, Furuno, and Wärtsilä export, for use with shipboard systems.

As described in the safety notice above, everything Plotroom produces is a planning aid only and must be verified by a qualified navigator on a certified ECDIS against official, corrected charts before any navigational use.

3. Eligibility and accounts

When you self-register, your account is placed in a pending state until an administrator approves it and assigns you a role (for example, CO, NAV, Watch Officer, or admin) and a vessel. You must:

provide accurate and complete information when you register;
keep your credentials secure and confidential;
accept responsibility for all activity that occurs under your account;
use one account per person — accounts are individual and may not be shared.

4. Acceptable use

You agree not to misuse Plotroom. In particular, you must not attempt to gain unauthorized access to the service or other users' data, disrupt or interfere with the service, upload unlawful or infringing content, or use Plotroom in any way that could endanger safe navigation. You must also follow your own organization's policies and procedures when using Plotroom.

5. Your content

You retain ownership of the routes, overlays, comments, and other content you create in Plotroom. You grant the operator a limited, non-exclusive license to store, process, and display that content solely to operate the service — including sharing it with the users and vessels you choose to share it with. You are responsible for the content you upload and for ensuring you have the right to use and share it.

6. Third-party and source data

Chart and ENC data (for example, from NOAA), AIS vessel positions, and other feeds are provided by third parties and public sources. This data is provided without warranty of accuracy, timeliness, or completeness, and may be subject to those sources' own terms. Always rely on official, fully-corrected charts and publications for navigation.

7. No warranty

Plotroom is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including — without limitation — any warranty of accuracy, reliability, availability, or fitness for a particular purpose, including navigation.

8. Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, the operator shall not be liable for any damages arising out of or relating to your use of, or inability to use, Plotroom, including any damages arising from navigational decisions, data errors, or service unavailability.

For the avoidance of doubt, and as set out in the safety notice at the top of this page: all outputs of Plotroom are planning aids that must be independently verified by a qualified navigator on a certified ECDIS, against official, fully-corrected charts, before any navigational use. Plotroom is not a certified or type-approved navigation system and must never be used as the sole means of navigation. You are solely responsible for the safe navigation of your vessel.

9. Suspension and termination

The operator may suspend or terminate your access to Plotroom at any time — for example, for violations of these Terms, or otherwise at its discretion. You may stop using Plotroom at any time, and you may request deletion of your account as described in the Privacy Policy.

10. Changes to these terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by a new effective date at the top of this page. Your continued use of Plotroom after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

11. Governing law

These Terms and your use of Plotroom are governed by the laws of the United States, without regard to conflict-of-laws principles.
